Solution!

A solution to the issue at my school has already been proposed, althought only temporarily. I believe this is the best plan possible for now.(You can check it out on my last blog.) The solution is to expand Perth Amboy High School by adding an additional building. This building will provide additional classrooms so that the school can be able to hold its large population of students. Besides this solution there was one additional plan on how to deal with this issue. The construction of a new high school, which would cost an estimate of 100 million! Perth Amboy High School is an abbott school in, and in order to build a new high school the money for the construction of the high school would have to come from the state. This won’t be likely to happen however because the school is not severely overcrowded, and the need for a new elementary is greater. To build a new high school the overcrowding would have to be on a larger scale.

I typed in “Overcrowding at Perth Amboy High School blog” on the google search engine. The blog I came to find, which was the first in the list of the top ten results was very interesting and very revelent. It answered my question of a solution to the over populated high school I attend, althought just temporarily. To summarize the blog in a short amount of words the blog basically said that the money to build a new high school is just not going to happen due to the fact that the economy isn’t stable. Perth Amboy would need the funding to build a high school from the state. To resolve, the problem of the overcrowed school additional housing will be taking place to house the entire freshman class. There is no use to knowing a problem exisits, and not doing anything to resolve it. Rather than talk about what the damage is, why not talk about a ssolution? This is the first reason why I think this blog is important. Especially, because the freshman need to get into the high school building, and get the real high school experience, rather than being in a separate building. I am happy I read this post because I know that a solution has been thought out, and will be acted upon soon enough.

Beliefs create conflict

Can you imagine attending a school that holds twice the number of students it was built to support? One of the most pressing issues in my school district is the overcrowding in Perth Amboy High School. To resolve this issue temporarily the Board of education added the East Campus. The East Campus is part of the Perth Amboy High, which opened up last September, and is only a couple blocks from the High School. The East campus is located on a Catholic School that was closed, and then leased to the Perth Amboy Board of Education to open up the East Campus. 200 Perth Amboy freshmen attend the East Campus. However, although the East Campus resolved the overcrowding issue, many other issues were created for students. Catholic Doctrine supports abstinence. The High School curriculum teaches sex education the first year of high school. Because sex education is taught the first year the 200 freshman attending the East Campus had to be bused from the East Campus to Perth Amboy High School. The overcrowding in my high school affect me because althought the district assigned the East Campus the high school is still crowded. Walking from the gym to the third floor, and to a walk of the opposite side of the gym caused me to be late numerous times this past year. Students in the East Campus were not as connected with the high school that well. For example if there were cheerleading try out sometimes the students will find out a day late. Overcrowding is also an issue at Wooodbridge High School.

After viewing a government statistics website I found in the internet I came to learn many new things about my school. It has always been rumored that there was a massive amount of dropouts each year within my high school. According to the 2007-2008 New Jersey School Annual Report Card Perth Amboy High School annual school report the dropout rate for White students was 1.5%, the state average being 1.2%. The dropout rate for Hispanic students was 0.3%, the state average being 3.1%. The dropout rate for Black or African American for students was 1.4%, the state average being 3.2%. The dropout rate was higher for males students who dropped out of school with an average of 0.5%. The average drop out rates for females was 0.2%. War Memorial High School is located in the Sayreville Boro. According to the 2007-2008 New Jersey School Annual Report Card War Memorial High School annual school report the average dropout rate for white students was 0.2%, the state average being 1.2%. The dropout rate for Hispanic students was0.4%, the state average being 3.1%. The dropout rate for Black or African American students was 0.4%, the state average being 3.2%. War Memorial High School and Perth Amboy High are not at all far in distance from one anothertalking location wise. But, the average dropouts are not far in distance either. This is important because when comparing Perth Amboy High School and War Memorial High School many people will speculate very different results than was the actuality.

New Sports at PAHS!

Three new sports are scheduled to open during the 2009-2010 year at Perth Amboy High School. The three new sports include a volleyball team, a swimming team, and a sailing team. The Perth Amboy Board of Education announced the opening of these three new sports just days before students left to summer vacation. I trust this source because the Perth Amboy Board of Education have authority not only at Perth Amboy High School, but in Perth Amboy Public Schools. Since then many students have been anticipating the opening of these new sports next year. I think the opening of these three new sports is interesting considering that I plan to join the swimming team, and sailing team. However, what I find most fascinating is the fact that Perth Amboy has the one of the oldest, if not the oldest port in the United States, and that before today there was never history of a sailing team being active at Perth Amboy High School. I became aware of the new opening of the sailing team at Perth Amboy High School through Gunnery Sergeant Peter Ramirez whom will be in charge of the sailing team. Mr. Ramirez informed me about the possible opening of the sailing team a few months ago when he received twelve sailing boats from Princeton University. At that time the Perth Amboy Board of Education had not yet approved of the sailing team. I used Mr. Ramirez as a source, and greatly believe in him because he also represents an authority character at Perth Amboy High School.
